Approach to Healing

The client’s body is an interconnected physical and energetic organism that seeks balance. Physical, emotional and spiritual disease and trauma cause imbalance. Healing occurs from within. I seek to support the client during the healing process. I ask the client’s body to reveal the nature of the blockage in the tissue on the cellular level: is it emotional, spiritual or physical? Is it universal or regional in body location? In what body system is it located (muscular, skeletal, visceral, etc.)? While listening to the ever-changing needs of the healing process, I provide the necessary support so the process can continue. It is like working a three-dimensional puzzle, in which the pieces fall into place at their own pace and direction. The desired outcome is release of tensions and the resulting return of balance to the body. This supports continued healing. A key realization is that I am not the healer. The client’s body will, given proper support, heal itself.

My Journey

Six months of reflection in 1996 changed my life and began my healing journey. I began my healing work with horses stabled in the Detroit metropolitan area. I consider these magnificent animals to be my teachers. Horses are purely emotional. As I practiced and learned, I had the luxury of working on bodies that were totally open to touch healing. They did not carry years of stored messages about their imperfections. However, it soon became apparent that if you took the humans out of the horse and rider relationship, the horses would be fine. The riders were passing on their emotional and physical imbalances to the horses and the horses were reacting with physical and behavioral problems. In order to support my equine healing practice, I decided to attend IMI in Southfield and learn the human massage. After a year of schooling and a year of apprenticeship I began to build a business of providing touch healing to both the horses and their riders.

In the fall of 1999, we moved to the mountains of southern New Mexico. It is a very quiet, remote, and peaceful place. In 2001 we opened a B&B and Spa. We believed at the time that given our remote location, the chances for growth of a spa business were small. We were very wrong. In 2004 we opened a Guest House and in 2006 added 4 and 7 day Healing Retreats. Also in 2002 I convinced the General Manager of a 100-year-old, 90-room lodge in a nearby town to convert an unused space into a spa facility. I conceived, designed and then managed this for 4 years. "If you build it they will come." This old saying proved true at both locations. I also found that those clients that could be helped by my approach to healing somehow found me, even in such a remote and isolated place.

My time in New Mexico has given me the physical, spiritual and emotional space necessary to grow into the therapist that is now returning to Michigan. It has taught me that the healing forces that come to bear in a session are beyond my ability to comprehend. But that if the client and I allow those healing forces to be there, miracles can happen.

My training and experience include Integrated Manual Therapy, Neuromuscular Therapy, Lymphatic Drainage, Craniosacral Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy, Applied Psychosynthesis, Body Energy Fields, Matrix Energetics, Chakra Therapy and Shiatsu. I am a Reiki Master. Clients ask what type of massage I practice. This is hard to answer because I draw from a variety of disciplines in order to provide an approach that is unique to each client’s needs. I combine energy support with non-invasive, but deep, bodywork to facilitate deep physical, spiritual and emotional relief.
